Well it definitely feels like Spring has finally arrived, and I know my children and I are really enjoying it. That is when we are not at the Farm or at home. That’s the problem with living with a Turf Farmer is that they treat your lawn like it is a turf Farm. So now that Spring is here and Plants are taking off with their Growing season, they need Fertilizing.All this rain is an excellent time to fertilize. Good for the lawn owner (because the rain water saturates the fertilizer into your lawn and it can be absorbed quickly and the smell doesn’t last) and Great for the lawn.

And the best fertilizer is of course, is smelly! So although the grass in a couple of days will look fantastic, we at the Farm and at home at our house have to live in the smelly conditions. But all in the name of excellent Turf to be delivered to you!

And the rain is again the best time to install turf into your home. This way you save on watering costs and the ground has so much beautiful water stored in it it can thrive and bloom. It is a shame though for the turf installers because you come out as a muddy mess. But as a customer said to me the other day, she is happy for a quick mud fix, then have her children drag mud through her house every day of this wet season. Anyone have any ideas when the wet season will end?

Now that it’s starting to Sunny up again, more and more people are calling us about the best ways to prepare their grounds for Turf installation. And like most things in life, the more prep work you do the less work you have to do later on. The more nutrients you put under the Turf the better long term effects it will have.

Friends of mine call it the Kids Effect. The more you put in now the nicer they will be later on. As in the more Organic Booster and water you can add to the soil and then install the turf, means the less work you have to do on the Grass when it is established.

But I’m not giving away all our installation secrets, you’ll have to give me a call to get those. Or even better, have us install Your Lawn for you.

And when I am asked about the best grass for People with Kids I always say a soft underfoot grass that it doesn’t matter when they fall on it, play football or cricket on it or like Cohan here eat it. And the best management of turf grasses is always Mow Mow Mow.

I’d like to introduce my daughter to you all. Hollie is 4 and is aiming to be the 3 generation of Turf Farmers in the family. Holl loves to drive the trucks with her Poppa, but her first love on the farm is driving the tractor.

So maybe dirt really does flow through our veins. But that’s what happen to us, Dad has taught us from day one about the love of farming, and we think this comes through in our work. Although I don’t work on the farm full time, I still really enjoy going down and working on the farm.Dad is the sort of teacher that doesn’t care if your a boy or a girl, he still expects the same from us. And we are passing that through to our kids, with the boys racing to catch up to Hollie.

My friends live in Cabarita Beach on the Tweed Coast and finally ripped out the concrete that was their back yard. But it left sandy messy soil. I’m sure lots us us know how hard it is to get sandy out of our house. So luckily she knew a turf farmer – that was me – and we installed Coastal Mix into her back yard last weekend and now our kids are playing happily on grass.

Now this is what a back yard should be like. Green and soft perfect for little ones to sit and romp on.
