Turf Driveways – Green up your hardscape

It’s been a week of amazing new turf driveways being installed. We have been lucky enough to work with a Landscaper as well as a Do It Yourself Amazing Man to create two very different turf driveway grassed areas.

There are several different products on the market for installing under Turf to create Lawn Driveways. The idea of these cells is that instead of concreting the area that will incur heavy traffic, you grass the area. Turf, lawn, grass they all create cooler healthier softer environments around your home. Rather than the hot, harsh, attracts mould and slime, concrete.

One of the main reasons that turf grasses die when they are driven over a lot is because of compaction. The cells, like GEOHEX or Grass Rings provide a protective area for the roots and soil from Compaction. Allowing the roots to breathe and travel through heathy soft soil. Although the leaf is flattened by traffic, the roots stay super healthy. Super healthy roots travelling through airy healthy soil means the plant can grow, recover and ensure the leaf stands up quickly. In our experince, and that of our clients, it is usually a lot cheaper than concreting the area as well.

One of the landscapers we work very closely with is Tony the Turfman. His projects usually include a beautiful lawn. So we very, very excited to be able to work with him on a 500sqm Wintergreen couch driveway for a customer. After chatting about the best cost effective, as well as best suited turf for the area, Turfman installed the Wintergreen couch across GEOHEX paving to create a beautiful driveway.

Turfman sent us this video about the process. It doesn’t show all the hard work the Turfman Team put in. They don’t like being in videos. Just the beautiful results.

Sarah in the office had the pleasure of working with a DIYAM ( DO It Yourself Amazing Man). His front area of his home was smaller, and he wanted to install a grassed area, rather than concrete. A lawn area is so much nicer and has so many more different uses than a hard concrete area. Being on the coast, cooling capacity to his home will be a game changer in Summer.

This DIYAM used Grass Rings to secure the ground and make it ready for his lawn driveway. here is his video.

DIYAM created a flat area where he wanted his driveway to be. Then he place the hard cells onto of the area, filled with soil, then laid Sir Walter Buffalo turf across the top. We decided on Sir Walter Buffalo for his area for a couple of reason. The Sir Walter is fast repairing, so the leaf will be perfect for a driveway. The area was a little shaded, so we need a thicker leafed grass like the Sir Walter. We wanted to match the new driveway with some existing buffalo turf DIYAM had already. It just looks amazing. And feels even better.

As all our blocks get smaller, and there is less and less area for your kids to run around on, why not consider a Grass Driveway? The grass around your home will keep it cooler in summer, warmer in winter. And provide you with clean fresh air all year round. And give you a great place for you to walk bare footed in summer across your cool driveway. Not to mention that it will also save you money!

Whether you decide to have a landscaper install for you or DIY, Coastal Turf can help you match the correct turf grass to your beautiful new Driveway and play area. We need more DIYAM and DIYAW (thats a Do It Yourself Amazing Women) in the world!
